It was created in 1967 and the reason behind it was that Amul’s competitor back then Polson had a Polson Girl for marketing their butter. Its been years since Polson stopped making butter, but Amul’s famous campaign, utterly, Butterly, Delicious” continues even today. Apart from this, their campaign “Amul Dhoodh Pita Hai India” has been running for 18 years, and “Amul the taste of India” for 28 years.
Their marketing stratergy is so effective that everyone recognizes the character.
But shockingly, Amul dosent even spend 1% of its revenue on marketing!!!
By comparison, the companies in similar fields spend 8 to 15% on marketing.
Perhaps the key to success is to continue using what works. One shouldn’t needlessly spend on creating new concepts.
There are many lessons to be learned from Amul’s success story.
