The thing is, Venice has become the world’s first city where you have to pay an entry fee t enter.

It might sound weird to us, but the city of Venice is dealing with the problem of over-tourism. 

Before the Coronavirus pandemic, each year 30 million people went to visit this city.

The authorities decided that to protect their city, to prevent over-tourism, they have to start charging an entry fee from tourists. This system has been permanently introduced from Jan 2023.

The entry fee will be 3-10 euro, and the price depends on the number of tourists in the city that day, how busy the city is.

Obviously, there are some exceptions to this ticketing rule, such as disabled people, medical tourists, people going to visit relatives, children below the age of 6.

They will be allowed free entry.

Apart from this entry fee, people staying overnight have to pay an extra tourist tax.
