 In the year 2019, China created a history when their Changé-4 spacecraft landed on the moon.

The mission’s purpose was to try and grow plants on the moon.

The spacecraft brought along a mini biosphere, which was called Lunar Micro Ecosystem (LME).

It was a small cylinder which was imitating the conditions that are found on earth.

But there was a difference: there was low gravity and there was cosmic radiation.

It was to be seen whether plants can grow with less gravity and cosmic radiation or not.

The LME contained potato seeds, cotton seeds, yeast, fruit fly eggs and a common weed.

The experiment was pretty much successful cotton was the first to sprout then rapeseeds and then potato seeds. 

Unfortunately after 14 days these plants died.

This simple reason for this is the way moon rotates around earth there is a two week period of sunlight then a two week period of darkness. 

When there was sunlight, the temperature was favorable for the plants to grow but when there was no sunlight, temperatures reached -310 deg F and without insulation, these plants couldn’t survive.
